Crownless, she weeps.
The Statue of Liberty was copper before it oxidized from air and pollution exposure to a patina layer of green.
And in copper and bronze sculptures over time, the parts that keep their shine and don’t change colors exist because of consistent exfoliation (like oils from human hands touching it) preventing oxide buildup and wearing away the patina layer.
After crying for so long, the Statue of Liberty’s tears have turned what was her iconic green shade back to the original state in which she was sculpted.
Her tears have value. It’s only when we express that something is wrong that we can bring her back to what liberty was meant to be.
